A New Orleans native, Benné holds a dual Master's degree in Fine Art and Art Therapy. This layered foundation has led to a love of storytelling through various materials. Her most recent body of work merges the applied arts of Mexico with the native materials of the Yucatan.  Early exposure to Mayan art and culture,  chance meetings with Yucatecos attending the University of Tulane, and advanced studies in the applied arts of Mexico have become integral to the narrative of place/person in this new series.

ENCAUSTIC ARTISTS LIKE IT HOT!

Enjoy a day of painting with encaustic, a versatile medium that is easy to use and exciting in the effects you can produce. Encaustic paint cools immediately, yet it can always be reworked. The forgiving nature of encaustic paints allows it to be re-melted to create different effects.

The three
hour class will cover the basics of layering wax, color application, fusing methods, and an exciting foray into tool applications. You will leave with two completed pieces. Wear old clothes, bring drinking water and a snack. Lunch and materials are provided. Class is limited to 4 students. Tuition is non-refundable, but transferable to another student.
